NO, A lubricant is not intended and applying one is a waste of time. It would not stay. Like a camera shutter--you do not lubricate them!

I suggest at this point, for you to purchase a new slide!!! "Like-metals-gall." Bearing surface are made of unlike materials for the mating parts (such as brass on steel, etc.).

I would not be surprised to find that a new slide has a number superseding and old number, for a substitute, improved material.
